Meta Blocks TikTok-Bound Ads in Egypt: What Arab Advertisers and Agencies Should Check

On 8 October 2026 Bloomberg reported that Meta had banned ByteDance, TikTok’s owner, from advertising on Facebook and Instagram in seven countries. Egypt is the only Arab market on the list. For advertisers and agencies in Arab markets the question is practical: which campaigns are affected, and what should be checked before the White Friday budgets go live?

For the background, read our earlier explainer, Meta’s ByteDance Ad Ban: What Egypt’s Advertisers and the Gulf Need to Know. This post adds our Meta Ad Library search and a checklist.

What exactly did Meta ban?

The countries named are the United States, Canada, Egypt, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand and Vietnam. The ban covers ads bought by ByteDance and, as reported, third-party paid campaigns that send users to TikTok or other ByteDance services in those countries. It concerns paid advertising only and does not stop anyone from using TikTok. A Meta spokesperson told The Verge: “We don’t have to run ads from a competitor whose goal is to pull people off our apps.” Meta has not publicly explained why these seven countries were chosen, and the reports we read describe no penalties or enforcement process. They do not say what happens to creators or branded content that is not paid through Meta’s ad system. Sources: TechRepublic, 13 October 2026 and Innovation Village, 9 October 2026. We did not find Meta’s own policy page, so treat the scope as reported, not confirmed by Meta in writing.

What does the Meta Ad Library show for Egypt?

On 21 October we searched the Meta Ad Library for the keyword “tiktok” with the country filter set to Egypt and the status set to active. It returned about 9,600 results. In the first 40 ads we parsed, nearly all came from TikTok’s own pages (TikTok EU, TikTok Global, TikTok For Business and regional variants), still listed as active, with start dates between early 2025 and 7 September 2026. None of the TikTok ads in that sample started after 8 October, and several have Arabic text. This does not show that the ads are still reaching users in Egypt. The library’s active status can lag, the Egypt filter lists ads the library links to the country rather than proving delivery, and ads that started before the ban can stay listed. A check of 40 ads is also a small sample.

What should an Arab advertiser or agency check?

If you run campaigns in Egypt that drive people to a TikTok profile, a TikTok video or a TikTok shop link, check the delivery status and any rejection notices in Meta Ads Manager now, and keep a dated record. Move the destination to your own site, WhatsApp or app page where the goal allows. If your campaigns target Saudi Arabia, the UAE or other Arab markets, the countries in the reports do not include them, but the list has not been explained and could change, so keep a fallback plan for Meta traffic that depends on TikTok as the landing point. For creators, ask the agency whether the post is a paid Meta ad or an organic post: the reports address paid advertising only.

What does this not tell us?

We did not have an Egyptian advertiser’s account to see rejected campaigns, we did not find Meta’s written policy, and the Ad Library check cannot show whether delivery stopped. If you are affected, your own Ads Manager notices are better evidence than anything here.

FAQ

Is the Meta ban on TikTok ads in Saudi Arabia or the UAE?

Not according to the reports we read, which list the United States, Canada, Egypt, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand and Vietnam.

Can I still run Meta ads that link to my TikTok page in Egypt?

As reported, third-party campaigns that send users to TikTok in the seven countries are also covered, so they may be blocked. Check Ads Manager for delivery and rejection notices.

Does the ban affect organic TikTok content?

No. It concerns paid advertising on Meta’s apps and does not stop people from using TikTok.
