Pharmaceutical Ads in Google AI Mode: Why No Arab Market Is on Google's Drug-Ad Lists

Google’s drug-ad test in AI Mode is US only, and no Arab market is on Google’s drug-ad lists. We read the three Google Ads policy pages on 15 October 2026. Prescription services may run in 32 listed locations, prescription drug makers in 3, and over-the-counter makers in 28. Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt and every other Arab country are absent from all three.

The news is that Google told Adweek it expanded its AI Mode and AI Overviews ad tests to “certain pharmaceutical products”. For an Arab pharmacy, clinic or telehealth brand, the useful question is whether that changes anything at home. On the evidence we could read, it does not. This guide sets out the lists, the Arab regulators that sit on top of them, and what to do in the meantime. It is not legal advice.

What did Google actually say about pharmaceutical ads in AI Mode?

A Google spokesperson told Adweek that the company is testing standard text and Shopping ads in AI Mode and AI Overviews, and that the test recently expanded to include certain pharmaceutical products. Search Engine Roundtable reported on 13 October 2026 that the pharmaceutical part began in October and is limited to the United States.

The report adds two details worth keeping. Google told Barry Schwartz there had been no recent change to its drug and pharmaceutical ad policies, so the expansion concerns where ads appear, not who may advertise. Schwartz also searched for such ads in both surfaces and did not find any himself. Read the report at Search Engine Roundtable and the original at Adweek.

Which locations does Google’s own policy allow for drug ads?

Google’s policy lists locations by advertiser type, and each list is short. Prescription services such as online pharmacies and telemedicine are allowed in 32 locations. Pharmaceutical manufacturers may promote prescription drugs in three and over-the-counter medicines in 28. We read the lists directly in a browser on 15 October 2026, not through a summary.

Google Ads policy list Locations listed Arab market on the list Closest entries to the region
Prescription drug services (online pharmacies, telemedicine) 32 None Israel, Kenya, South Africa
Manufacturers: prescription drugs 3 (Canada, New Zealand, United States) None None
Manufacturers: over-the-counter medicines 28 None Kenya
Reported AI Mode and AI Overviews pharmaceutical test United States only None None

Primary sources: Google’s prescription drug services policy and pharmaceutical manufacturers policy, both under Healthcare and medicines. The pages show no last-updated date, so check them again before any campaign decision.

What do Arab regulators add on top of Google’s lists?

Each Arab market puts its own approval step between a medicine and an ad. In Saudi Arabia the SFDA must approve advertising for regulated health products, and its list covers non-prescription medicines only. In Egypt the Drug Authority publishes violation notices for ads of registered products that it did not approve. Google’s lists and these rules are separate gates.

Our earlier work covers the detail. We counted 43 public Egyptian Drug Authority notices on 4 October 2026 in our medicine ads comparison, set out Saudi and Emirati health ad rules in our healthcare ads guide, and summarised Dubai’s social media standards in our DHA breakdown. We did not re-verify those regulator pages for this article.

Could pharmaceutical ads reach Arab searchers through AI Mode anyway?

On the evidence we could read, no. Google says the test is US only and its drug policies did not change, and the policy lists name no Arab location. We did not test AI Mode ad delivery in Arab markets, and Google has published no country list for AI Mode ads, so we can state the policy position, not an observed result.

The practical risk runs the other way. A pharmacy or telehealth brand reads the US news and assumes a new channel has opened. It has not, and an account that tries drug-related ads outside the listed locations risks disapprovals. Also remember that Google’s policy ends at the ad. Your landing page, your claims and your doctor or influencer posts still answer to the local regulator.

What should an Arab healthcare advertiser do this week?

Treat this as a reminder to separate three questions: what your regulator lets you say, what Google lets you run in your country, and where else a patient can find you. Only the second changed in the news, and only in the United States. Spend the week on the other two.

  1. Read your own account policy status. Open the Healthcare and medicines pages above and check whether your services fall under prescription services, manufacturer or other categories.
  2. Get regulator approval first. Confirm the SFDA, Egyptian Drug Authority or health authority position on each claim before it reaches a creative.
  3. Move discovery to surfaces you can use. Organic results and AI answers do not depend on ad policy. Our healthcare SEO guide covers how to build pages those answers can cite.

Audit how my clinic or pharmacy appears in Google and AI answers

Our read

The headline will travel faster than the facts, and Arab agencies will pitch “pharma ads in AI Mode” to clients as an opportunity. It is not one for any Arab market today. Google’s own pages are the evidence, and they are blunt. We would rather tell a client the channel is closed than sell a test that policy will reject. If Google adds an Arab location, it will appear on those lists first.

FAQ

Can I run prescription drug ads on Google in Saudi Arabia?

Not on the evidence we read. Google’s pharmaceutical manufacturer policy lists three locations for prescription drugs: Canada, New Zealand and the United States. Its prescription services list has 32 locations and names no Arab market. The Saudi SFDA also requires approval before regulated health product ads. Check both gates before you build a campaign.

Does the AI Mode pharmaceutical test include the UAE or Egypt?

No report says so. Search Engine Roundtable cites Adweek that the test began in October 2026 and is limited to the United States, and Google told it that its drug ad policies did not change. We found no Google statement covering the UAE or Egypt. Treat any claim otherwise as unverified until Google publishes it.

My online pharmacy sells prescription drugs in the Gulf. Which Google list applies?

Prescription services, which covers online pharmacies and telemedicine, is the list that fits, and it names 32 locations with no Arab market. Google applies the policy by looking at your ads, site and services. We cannot judge a specific account, so read the policy and ask Google or a regulator before spending.

Do these Google lists cover clinics and hospitals?

This article covers drug-related ads only. Clinic and hospital services sit under other parts of the Healthcare and medicines policy, which we did not analyse here. Local rules still apply, for example Dubai’s DHA standards for social media health content. Read the relevant policy section and your regulator’s rules before you publish.

How will I know if Google adds an Arab market to these lists?

The location lists on the policy pages are the source of truth, and the pages carry no changelog date. Recheck them monthly and follow Google Ads policy announcements. News coverage such as Search Engine Roundtable usually flags policy changes quickly, but the policy page itself decides what your account may run.

What is the better question than “are pharma ads coming to AI Mode”?

The better question is where your patients will find you when ads are closed to you. If you sell regulated products or services, build compliant organic pages and clinic profiles now, because they work whether or not Google opens a channel. If you run only general health information, check your claims against the regulator and keep the policy pages bookmarked for changes.
