Google Ads Channel Priority, Lead Scoring and a February 2027 Display Change: A Checklist for Arab Advertisers Before White Friday

Google Ads changed how budgets can be steered between channels on 14 October 2026, added lead scoring to lead forms on 16 October, and is showing some accounts a new report that joins search terms with ads. White Friday is on 27 November, so campaign structures are being locked now. This is what the changes are, what the documentation says, and what an Arab advertiser should check. We have not tested these controls in a client account: this article is based on Google’s announcement, its help page as reported, and industry coverage.

What are channel prioritization and budget allocation?

Google’s Tal Akabas announced two optional controls on 14 October 2026: label a channel as High or Low priority, and for Low-priority channels set a maximum percentage of the daily budget. In Search campaigns, Google Search, Search partners and the Google Display Network can each get their own priority. In Performance Max and Demand Gen, Search, YouTube, Maps, Gmail and Discover are grouped as “Google channels”. The campaign types named are Search, Shopping, Performance Max and Demand Gen, at account and campaign level and for shared budgets, rolling out globally over the coming months. Campaigns fund High-priority channels first, keeping within a Target CPA or Target ROAS, and spend what is left on Low-priority ones. Source: Google Ads blog, 14 October 2026.

The limits matter more than the headline. The percentage is a best-effort target, not a guarantee. For Target CPA or Target ROAS campaigns that are not limited by budget, priority levels generally do not change how spend is distributed and only the percentage has an effect. Ginny Marvin of Google wrote that these are “budgeting controls and not bidding controls”, that a Performance Max Search partner allocation can be set to 0% once the channel is Low priority, and that placement reports are the way to confirm spend stopped. Google’s help page still listed API support as “coming soon” on 18 October and, as reported, says Demand Gen budget allocation is not supported. Source: Relevant Audience, 18 October 2026.

Which change has a deadline for Search campaigns?

From February 2027, for Search campaigns that have the Google Display Network turned on, the current spend allocation setup will be removed, which may shift how spend is split. To keep the current behaviour, Google says to set the Display Network to Low priority with a 50% budget allocation. Many Arab accounts keep the Display Network on inside Search campaigns because it was a default for years. Check each Search campaign for it before the new year, note the current Display share in the placement report, and decide on purpose whether to cap it. This is the part of the announcement most likely to change an Arab advertiser’s results without anyone touching the account.

What is lead scoring in Google Ads lead forms?

Search Engine Roundtable reported on 16 October 2026 that lead form custom questions now let you mark answers as qualifying. Go to Assets, Lead Form, Create Lead Form, Custom Questions, add up to 12 answer options per question, and check the answers that make a lead qualified for your business. Leads are managed on the Leads page. The report does not say where or for which campaign types it is available, or whether it affects bidding. Source: Search Engine Roundtable, 16 October 2026.

For a clinic, a real estate company or a school, this suggests a simple use: add a question such as the treatment or property type, the budget range or the city, and mark the answers you can serve. Write the question and answers in Arabic for an Arabic form. We have not checked whether Arabic answers behave the same as English ones, so test one form with a few leads before you rely on it, and keep a WhatsApp or phone follow-up for leads who are not marked qualified, since marking is a label, not a filter on who can contact you.

What is the search terms and ad combinations report?

On 14 October Search Engine Roundtable reported that Google Ads appears to be testing a report that joins search terms, the headlines and descriptions shown, the landing page, the match source and the asset source in one view. It was spotted in one account by one practitioner, who linked it to AI Max for Search campaigns, and Google has not made a statement we could find. Do not plan around it yet. If it appears in your account, it would help in Arabic accounts to compare an Arabic search with the headline and landing page it triggered, including the spelling variants we describe in our guide to Arabic spelling variants in Google Ads. What should an Arab advertiser do before White Friday?

List which Search campaigns have the Display Network or Search partners on, and write down their share of spend. For Performance Max campaigns, check how much spend goes to Search partners and whether you want to cap it, remembering that the setting is a target. Do not change settings in the middle of a sale without a test: Ginny Marvin calls the settings “fully testable” (the help page notes that in experiments all channels sit on one tier), and a Target CPA or Target ROAS campaign that is not limited by budget will mostly ignore the priority labels. If you collect leads in Arabic, test lead scoring on one form. Check the new automated promotions behaviour as well (see our automated promotions checklist for Arab advertisers), because a discount shown in an ad needs to match the licence and the price on the page.

What does this article not cover?

We did not open a client Google Ads account to see whether these controls have reached it, the rollout is progressive, and we do not know when each Arab market gets each feature. The announcement names no countries. We have not tested Arabic text in lead scoring. Treat this as a checklist of what to look for, not as results.

FAQ

What does Low priority mean for a Google Ads channel?

A Low-priority channel is funded only after High-priority channels are fully funded, and you can cap it at a percentage of the daily budget, as a best-effort target.

What happens to the Display Network in Search campaigns in February 2027?

Google says the current spend allocation setup for Search campaigns with the Display Network on will be removed. Setting the Display Network to Low priority with a 50% allocation keeps the current behaviour.

Can I set Performance Max Search partners to zero?

According to Google’s Ginny Marvin, yes, once the channel is set to Low priority, and placement reports show whether spend stopped.
