Across three client properties, Search Console’s new Generative AI report logged 13.7 million AI-feature impressions between 2 and 29 September 2026. On the two sites where we could compare, that equals 24.8% and 27.6% of all their web impressions. Clicks are not reported at all.

This is the first Arab-market reading of the report we have seen published. Google rolled it out to every website on 31 August 2026, so most marketing teams in Riyadh, Dubai and Cairo opened it for the first time last month. Below are the numbers, how to read them, and what they do not tell you.

What does Search Console’s Generative AI report measure?

The report counts how often a link to your site was shown inside an AI Overview or an AI Mode answer on Google Search. It reports impressions only, with no clicks, by page, country, device and date. Google says the data is part of the Web search type in the normal Performance report, so AI impressions sit inside your existing totals.

That last point matters for anyone comparing numbers. According to Google’s help page for the report, the generative AI data “includes data from the Web search type” in the main Performance report. Nothing is added on top. A ratio of AI impressions to web impressions is therefore a share of your own visibility, not a separate audience.

Three limits apply. A page used as a source without a visible link earns no impression. There is no year-on-year history, because the report only launched in Google’s announcement of June 2026. And Search Labs experiments are excluded.

The default view filters to “Web: text-based”. A second option, “Web: multimodal”, covers Google Lens and Circle to Search, which Google added in September 2026. Keep the filter on text when you compare against the main report.

How we pulled the data

We read the Generative AI report in Search Console for three client properties on 4 October 2026, using the default “last 28 days” window (2 to 29 September 2026). We then pulled web impressions for the same dates from the Search Console API. All three clients agreed to aggregated, anonymous use.

Site

What it is

Main audience

AI-feature impressions

Web impressions

AI ÷ web

Site A

Large Arabic health information site

Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Levant, North Africa

13,567,046

54,733,794

24.8%

Site B

Mid-size Arabic clinic site (gastroenterology)

Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Syria, Kuwait

95,474

345,944

27.6%

Site C

Multilingual consumer app, Arabic section included

Syria, Egypt, Turkey, Iraq, Saudi Arabia

60,800

Not available

Not available

Two sites in one sector is a small sample. Google shows AI Overviews and AI Mode to Arabic-language searchers at a similar rate whether they search from the Gulf, Egypt or the Maghreb. That fits Google’s May 2025 decision to launch AI Overviews in Arabic across the region at once, rather than country by country.

Site B’s Saudi figure is the outlier. With 42,984 Saudi web impressions in the period, the sample is large enough to take seriously, but one month is one month. We will re-read it in November.

Is the AI share growing week to week?

On Site B, yes, and fast. Its AI-feature impressions rose 39% between 20 and 29 September 2026, from 3,728 to 5,182 a day. Web impressions rose 6.4% over the same days. The AI share of daily impressions climbed from 25.7% to 33.6% in nine days.

Site A moved far less. Its daily web impressions held between 1.8 and 2.0 million through September, and its AI share stayed near a quarter. Large sites with thousands of ranking pages appear to have reached their level already, while a smaller site’s pages are still being picked up as sources.

The timing overlaps with the September 2026 spam update, which Google started on 24 September. Site B’s average web position also improved after that date, from 6.7 to 7.6 between 20 and 23 September to 6.0 to 6.4 between 25 and 28 September. We cannot separate the two effects from this data, so we do not claim the update caused the AI growth.

Want to know what share of your own Arabic traffic now runs through AI answers? Read my Search Console AI report with VOCTOS and tell me what it means.

Which pages earn the AI impressions?

A small set of pages does most of the work. On Site B, 10 of the 435 pages with AI impressions collected 74.2% of the total (70,832 of 95,474). Every one of the ten answers a symptom or diet question in plain terms, the kind of query Google tends to answer with an AI summary first.

The pattern is easy to check on your own site. Open the Pages tab, sort by impressions and compare the top ten against your top ten in the normal Performance report. Pages that rank but never appear in the AI list are your gap. Pages that appear in the AI list but sit beyond position 10 in normal results are worth keeping current, because the AI answer is now their main shop window.

One of Site B’s top ten uses an Arabic-script URL slug and the other nine use English slugs. Slug language did not keep a page out of AI answers. Our test of Arabic URL slugs covers the trade-offs for sharing and analytics.

Mobile or desktop: where do Arabic AI impressions happen?

Almost entirely on phones, because that is where Arabic search happens. On Site B, 96.6% of AI-feature impressions came from mobile. On Site A the AI share was slightly higher on desktop (26.8%) than on mobile (24.7%), but mobile still delivered 12.96 million of its 13.57 million AI impressions.

Device

Site A: AI impressions

Site A: AI ÷ web

Site B: AI impressions

Mobile

12,960,023

24.7%

92,184

Desktop

455,468

26.8%

2,486

Tablet

151,555

26.1%

804

For page design, this means the first screen of an AI answer on a phone is the battleground. If your page is cited, the link card is small. A clear page title and a fast mobile page decide whether the rare click turns into a visit that stays. Our Core Web Vitals study of 45 Arab brand sites found most of them fail on phones.

How do you compare several Arab countries at once?

Since 6 October 2026, the Search Console performance report lets you pick several countries in one filter and see their combined Google Search traffic (Search Engine Roundtable, 6 October 2026). For Arab sites this saves a step: build one group for the Gulf (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman) and one for the wider Arab audience, then compare the two groups instead of reading country rows one by one. The figures in this article were pulled before the change, country by country, so they are not affected.

What the report does not show

The report has no clicks, no queries and no split between AI Overviews and AI Mode. You see that a link was shown, not whether anyone tapped it, and not which question triggered it. Google has not said when, or whether, clicks will be added.

Three workarounds help until then:

Clicks: compare a page’s AI impressions with its organic clicks in the main report over the same dates. A page whose AI impressions climb while clicks stay flat is being read in the answer, not visited.

Visits from AI tools outside Google: ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity send referrals that show up in GA4, unlike Google’s AI features. Our guide to tracking AI traffic in GA4 for Arab markets sets up the channel group.

Questions: run the queries you care about in AI Mode yourself, in Arabic and English, and note which pages it links. That is the only way to see the trigger.

Our read

A quarter of your Google visibility now comes with an AI answer attached, and for some pages it is the main way searchers see you. That changes what a “ranking report” should contain. Any monthly SEO report for an Arabic site that leaves out the Generative AI tab is missing about 25% of the picture.

We would not chase the AI share as a target on its own. A higher share with flat clicks means Google is answering for you. The useful questions are which pages win AI impressions, whether those pages still earn clicks, and whether the brand is named in the answer. The third needs prompt testing, which our AI visibility score method covers.

We will repeat this reading each month and add more properties as clients agree. If your numbers look very different from a quarter, that is worth knowing too.

FAQ

Why don’t I see the Generative AI report in my Search Console?

Google rolled the report out to all websites on 31 August 2026, but a property only shows it once it has enough AI-feature impressions. It also stays hidden if you excluded the site from Search generative AI features in the AI control setting. Check Performance in the left menu for a “Generative AI” entry.

Are AI Overview impressions counted twice in my Search Console totals?

No. Google’s help page says the Generative AI report uses data from the Web search type in the normal Performance report. AI impressions are a breakout of totals you already see, not an addition. Dividing AI impressions by web impressions for the same dates gives the share of your visibility that came with an AI link.

Is 25% AI share good or bad for an Arabic site?

It is neither by itself. It is the level we measured on two Arabic health sites in September 2026: 24.8% and 27.6%. What matters is whether the pages earning AI impressions still earn clicks. A high share with falling clicks means the answer satisfies the searcher before they reach you.

Can I see which queries triggered my AI Overview impressions?

Not in this report. As of October 2026 it groups data by page, country, device and date only, with no query dimension and no clicks. To find triggers, take the pages with the most AI impressions and run their target questions in AI Mode and Google Search yourself, in Arabic and English.

Does the report separate AI Overviews from AI Mode?

No. Both features are combined in one impression count. Google lists AI Overviews and AI Mode as the included features and says the list will change over time. If you need the split, you have to check results manually for your main queries and note which feature linked your page.

Read the AI tab before you read the ranking report

The question used to be “where do we rank?” For Arabic sites in late 2026 it is also “how often does Google answer with our link attached, and does anyone still click?” If you already have the Generative AI tab, export the last 28 days, divide by your web impressions and compare your top AI pages with your top click pages. If the tab is missing or nearly empty, fix the basics first: indexable pages that answer one question each, clear authorship, and fast mobile loading.

Compare my AI impressions with these Arab-market benchmarks

{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@graph": [
    {
      "@type": "Article",
"headline": "How Often Do Arabic Sites Appear in Google's AI Answers?
